| | | |
| |
The success of each Dental Implant is largely related to the skill of the Dentist who places it. Prior to operating it is essential to assess the quality and quantity of the bone available at the intended site of the implant.
Excellent oral hygiene following implantation is crucial for continued success of the implant. Smoking has been found to be a major factor in causing Dental Implants to fail. Several studies have found the 5-year success rate of implants to be between 75-95%.
Dental Implants should be held tightly in place by the surrounding bone. If however there is any movement between the implant and the bone it will have failed. Dental implants are not subject to dental caries like ordinary teeth but the area surrounding the implant can become infected and inflamed, which may lead to a loss of supporting bone and the resultant loosening of the implant. most likely to happen with smokers and those whose oral hygiene is deficient. More rarely, an implant may fail because of poor positioning at the time of surgery.
There are no medical conditions that make dental implants impossible. There are however some circumstances when we may advise against an implant:
Uncontrolled type II diabetes is a condition that causes concern as healing following any type of surgical procedure is delayed due to poor peripheral blood circulation.
Of prime importance is the volume and height / depth of bone available. It is essential there is sufficient to accommodate the implant an hold it securely. Where there is insufficient bone available it may be necessary to undertake additional enabling procedures such as Dental augmentation and / or a sinus lift.
The skill and experience of the dentist undertaking this procedure are key considerations. Prof Dr. Szabo is and extremely well qualified and experienced dental surgeon who has not only practised these procedures over many years, but has also researched and trained many student dentists as well. It would be hard to find more capable hands to undertake your dental implants
