Even after you have invested in a set of gleaming dental veneers, the entire effect can be marred by the contrast of ugly black or silver fillings. This is easily rectified by replacing the old fillings with tooth coloured cosmetic fillings.

Amalgam fillings have been used for many years and they are functionally very good, but really do spoil the appearance of nice teeth if you need to "open wide".

Amalgam fillings contain the toxic substance - mercury, which is quite safe, but must be removed with care and special equipment. Removing mercury could pose a health risk and so special high powered vacuum equipment is needed to ensure that no Mercury vapour is ingested. Prof Szabo is an acknowledged expert in this procedure and has published extensively on the subject.

Aesthetics are not the only advantage over silver fillings. As silver does not stick to teeth, entirely healthy tooth structure is usually removed to keep a silver filling in place. Composite Cosmetic Fillings permit us to remove only the decayed area of your tooth.

Unlike silver fillings, composite bonding material will expand just like your teeth and is much less likely to cause cracks in your tooth. Composites bond directly to the tooth providing support. Composites can be used to fill in cracks, chips and gaps - and will match the colour of your other teeth.

Ceramic Inlays

If we need to repair very large cavities in your rear 'chewing' teeth then ceramic inlays produce a far superior cosmetic result.

Once bonded to the tooth ceramic inlays are very strong, and afford a good long lasting seal. Ceramic inlays are long lasting and stain resistant.

The process for restoring a tooth with an inlay is however somewhat longer than is needed for a normal or a Cosmetic filling and will cost quite a lot more. You will need to visit Heviz for one week. During that time you will have two appointments: one at the beginning of the week and the other at the end.

During your first visit, the old filling, or the decay, will be removed, and the tooth prepared.

We will then make an impression of the tooth and find the best colour match with your natural teeth. We will of course seal and protect your tooth so that you are comfortable while the inlay is being made.

The impression then goes to our dental laboratory where it is used to make the custom-made porcelain, inlay. You will have a few days to relax and enjoy the spa facilities of Heviz or travel to Budapest for some sightseeing.

When your inlay is ready we will remove the temporary sealants and fit the inlay to your tooth and undertake any adjustment needed to ensure a god 'bite'. When the inlay is a good fit we bond it into the tooth with a strong resin, and polish it smooth.

Once fitted a ceramic inlay needs no special attention to maintain it in good condition. You should however avoid biting hard objects so as not to fracture it.

Tooth Coloured Bonding

The dental bonding procedure utilizes composite Cosmetic resin and is used for a variety of structural as well as cosmetic purposes. Dental Bonding is a solution for making cosmetic improvements and even changing the colour of your teeth or the reshaping of teeth. Bonding will lighten any stains you may have, close up minor gaps and can be used to correct crooked teeth.

Basically, bonding will cover any natural flaws applying a thin coating of a plastic material on the front surface of your teeth. After this, we apply a bonding material and sculpt, colour and shape it to provide a pleasing result. A high-intensity light then hardens the plastic, and the surface is finely polished.

If you have close, small gaps between your front teeth, or if you have chipped or cracked teeth, you may be a candidate for bonding. Bonding is also used for patients who have discoloured teeth, uneven teeth, gum recession or tooth decay. Bonding material is porous, so smokers will find that their bonding will yellow.
